Microsocia

A speculative infrastructure for a network of dwelling communities centred around the values of rest, personal development, and connection.

Microsocia as a speculative project explores how alternative community-dwelling arrangements can form around value systems which de-centre capital. Instead, the communities of the project value systems respectively are built around facilitating time affluence, education and self-development for its inhabitants. The project to issues of workforce automation, decreasing quality of life in cities and overwork, and opportunities for a universal basic income and deurbanization supported by hybrid working.

These issues forecasted and imagined to impact life in the late 2030s inform the importance of cooperative governance giving members of this community agency and ownership over their neighbourhoods. Options of Self-building to own and shared ownership of houses within the community cement this rooted model into the network of Microsocian communities.

Introducing the Communities

Scholan

Scholan communities are centred around balancing further learning while working. This community model was designed around offering opportunities to retrain in a supported environment

Sabbatomunal

For those opting to study over a shorter time, and focus on personal projects the Sabbatomunal community model is designed to allow members to take a year out of work, supported by a communal fund.

Tranquilian

Set around rest and leisure for families and individuals at different stages, this community aims to bring together and forge communities around this. Families are grouped in similar life stages, sharing responsibilities of the school run and dedicated community gardens and spaces.

Voluntarian

Based on getting involved on a local and social level, the Voluntarian community works more like traditional co-living and can work in 3 different modes depending on where you are based and what works for you.
