This project was an inquiry into the semiotics and the role cultural capital play in the acquisition of taste. I was particularly interested in the social markers that the cultivation of "good taste" signals. It was important that the project also valued the role of kitsch and camp as more democratic and arguably more relevant expressions of taste and enjoyment of aesthetics and materials. My approach was a global one as my research also lead me to explore what I call #globalkitsch as expressions of extravagance, artifice and performing narratives across cultures.
